Who Pays For Treatment After A Car Accident?

Insurance claim form being held by a man's hand over a desk.
If you are injured in a car accident and suffering from back, neck, and spine-related injuries, you need to contact a chiropractor to provide a non-invasive way of healing your wounds.

Injuries from a car accident can not only cause you physical pain and discomfort, but it can drain your finances in the form of excessive medical bills and a possible loss of work.

Where you have sustained injuries in a car accident, you are entitled to compensation under personal injury protection (PIP) insurance.

No out of pocket expenses!

What Is PIP Insurance?

If you sustained injuries following a car accident, personal injury protection coverage (PIP) can compensate you for the expenses incurred because of the injuries. PIP insurance can cover medical and hospital costs, chiropractor services, and other related damages resulting from the accident.

Personal injury protection or no-fault insurance helps those involved in the accident to cover medical expenses, loss of work costs, and other economic damages that resulted from the accident, irrespective of who was at fault.

What Does PIP Insurance Cover?

Personal injury protection insurance covers the policyholder, the policyholder's family, the passengers in the car, and any person driving the policyholder's car at the time of the accident.

You can be covered under PIP insurance even when driving someone else's car or getting struck by a vehicle while walking, running, or cycling.

The coverage of PIP insurance may include:

  • Medical expenses: These may include hospital charges, medication, chiropractic services, dental and eye care and nursing, and prosthetic charges.
  • Loss of income: Where you or any injured passenger lose work because of the injuries;
  • Funeral expenses: Where the car accident causes death.
  • Other expenses: The replacement cost when you are incapable of doing work like household chores, child care, or lawn care.

What Does PIP Insurance Not Cover?

Your PIP insurance will not cover compensation for the pain and suffering of the injured parties. It will also not cover the damages to your vehicle or any other property.

PIP Coverage After An Auto Accident In Minnesota

Personal injury protection insurance is compulsory for all drivers in Minnesota. Minnesota is a no-fault state. As such, no fault insurance covers all expenses incurred due to an auto accident, regardless of who caused it.

If you suffered injuries from a car accident in Minnesota, you could receive a minimum PIP insurance coverage of $40,000 per person per accident, which includes $20,000 for medical care and $20,000 for non-medical expenses like loss of wage costs.

If the insurance company disputes the payment of any eligible expenses, you can pursue an arbitration proceeding against the insurance company to clarify each party's obligations.

In case of an auto accident, a standard Minnesota insurance policy would cover the following benefits:

  • Personal injury protection (PIP): It provides a minimum coverage of $20,000 for medical expenses and $20,000 for non-medical costs that may include at least a partial reimbursement of loss of wage expenses per covered person.
  • Liability coverage: Where you are found at fault in a car accident, Minnesota laws protect you by restricting the liability to $ 30,000 per covered person and $60,000 per accident in liability coverage.
  • Underinsured or uninsured driver: Where the auto injury happened because of another driver who has inadequate or no insurance, your insurance policy would provide a minimum compensation of $ 25,000 per covered person and $50,000 per accident.

Who pays for a chiropractor after an accident?

If you have suffered injuries involving pain and discomfort from a car accident, you need to contact a chiropractor immediately.

Chiropractic care can relieve pain and discomfort, reduce inflammation and scarring, restore range of motion, and allow your body to heal.

A chiropractor service specializing in accident care can also assist you in completing the paperwork required to get the insurance claim reducing your financial burden.

Minnesota PIP insurance covers medical costs, like chiropractic services, up to a minimum of $20,000 regardless of whose fault caused the accident.
